Marks new life at BEAR SANCTUARY Arbesbach
For more than 20 years Mark never felt anything but cold, hard concrete under his paws. Being kept as a tourist attraction, he spent his days locked up in a tiny cage next to a restaurant in Albania.BUT in December 2022, Mark’s long journey to his new home @BEAR SANCTUARY Arbesbach began. After days of traveling, he finally arrived safely at the sanctuary.
World Bear Day 2023
Today we want to honour the 147 bears currently living in all FOUR PAWS sanctuaries and cooperation partner projects. All these majestic, fluffy creatures were rescued from a dire fate and miserable life in captivity. Thankfully, they now have an opportunity to experience the species-appropriate life they truly deserve, where they can play, nap and splash to their heart’s desire! We’re so grateful for your support that enables us to take care of these beautiful bears.
Good morning, Mark!
After spending some weeks in his cosy den, Mark gets active more and more and also his appetite grows.
Bear Mark is finally home!
Watch for a true winter miracle! Bear Mark lived a sad life as the last restaurant bear in Albania. He was confined to a concrete cage, that was built without plans of Mark ever leaving. However, our dedicated team gave their all to rescue poor Mark, including cutting the cage open, and bring him to our BEAR SANCTUARY Arbesbach – where he can now, finally, live a species-appropriate life. Mark is currently getting used to his new life and carefully exploring his surroundings. After his initial adjustment period, further measures for improving his health condition will be decided. Thanks to your support he will get to enjoy a beautiful, big enclosure with real ground beneath his paws for the rest of his life. Stay tuned for more updates! Brumca and her treats
Brumca is really enthusiastic while trying to get out the treats of the cardboard tube. She spent a lot of time playing with it and enjoyed so much the treats she got from it – mainly nuts and pasta. She is 29 years old this year and she is doing great. She is in good health condition, and she has a good appetite. As the weather is really hot recently, she has been enjoying long baths in her pond.
Emma and Erich play in the pond
What`s better than a dose of sunshine, splashes in the pond and nice company? This is Emma and Erich`s favourite activity when spring arrives at our BEAR SANCTUARY Arbesbach. Both bears have had a good winter and a long hibernation, but now they are all energetic and love to play together.
Emma and Erich rolling around in the snow
Emma and Erich live at the BEAR SANCTUARY Arbesbach since 2015. They are siblings and are now 11 years old. In spring, when mating season starts, they love to play and roll around and they don´t mind at all, if it`s snowy or the sun is shining.
